Soupologie Profiling: Turmeric, Carrot & Coconut

Turmeric, Carrot and Coconut soup by Soupologie

In today’s blog post I want to discuss a soup that allows you to glow from within – our Turmeric, Carrot & Coconut soup! This soup is particularly popular when we’re able to do in-store demos. This is down to the thick and creamy texture of a dairy-free soup. The lack of dairy does indeed come as a welcoming and pleasant surprise! Read on to discover why turmeric is fully deserving of its current status as a super-spice. In addition to how it benefits our mind and body!

 Turmeric, Carrot and Coconut Soup

What’s in a pot?

Our aim with this soup was to create a warming, refreshing and energizing meal. We’re always transparent about what we put in our soups. We do so knowing exactly how each ingredient benefits our health and well-being. Each pot contains: carrots, coconut cream, onions, garlic, ginger, turmeric, curry powder (coriander, turmeric, fenugreek, chilli pepper, cinnamon, clove, black pepper), water, vegetable stock, oil, salt, lime, cayenne pepper.

Have no fear if you’re sensitive to some spice! This soup provides a warming, light curried kick from the blend of carefully picked spices. The inclusion of sweet carrots and luscious coconut cream provides a mellow and cooling balance to the potency of the turmeric and curry powder. Each 300g serving of soup also contains 128% of your recommended daily intake of Vitamin A. That’s only half a serving of soup – if you’re willing to share!

What’s so great about Turmeric?

A powerhouse in Ayurvedic medicine, turmeric has been a longstanding relief to various ailments. One aspect of glowing from within revolves around our mindset and mental well-being. Curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, benefits brain health and is said to prevent anxiety disorders. Moreover, the elevated levels of powerful antioxidants can potentially minimize damage to brain cells. Research suggests that curcumin can improve the rate at which our bodies make use of DHA, a type of omega-3 found in our brains. Turmeric also promotes dopamine and serotonin. Both of which are mood-boosting brain chemicals.

It’s worth noting that to get 2000x more absorption from turmeric, you should consume it with a pinch of black pepper. Our curry blend has you sorted, but feel free to add more pepper if you like!

What about the rest?

Another super-spice that benefits our health and well-being is ginger. This is down to its anti-inflammatory and potent antioxidative properties. As a health product, ginger is most commonly used to aid digestion and alleviate nausea (including morning sickness). In addition to relieving some symptoms of the common cold and flu. Studies also indicate that ginger may be effective in combating muscle soreness as a result of intensive exercise. The chemical compound that provides ginger with all these benefits is called gingerol. Interestingly, gingerol is similar to capsaicin and piperine – the active components of chilli peppers and black pepper which gives them their spice!

We use coconut cream in this soup to provide that extra boost of creaminess. It also helps to mellow out the curry spices. However, did you know that there are actually plenty of nutritional benefits to coconut cream? Just 1 tablespoon of coconut cream contains just 50 calories, 5.2g of fat and 0.5g of protein. You’ll also find that it contains small amounts of copper (0.1mg), iron (0.3mg), magnesium (4.2mg), manganese (0.2mg), potassium (48.8mg) and phosphorous (18.3mg).
