This soup really helps to prove the Soupologie mission, which is to say that we can obtain all the vitamins, minerals and nutrients from our diet alone without needing to use multivitamins and supplements. By breaking down the benefits of our soups, you can see why a diet rich in vegetables and fruit is so important. In addition to this, you can outline achieving all your nutrient goals by understanding what goes into every pot of our soup.

Spirulina Greens

What’s in a pot?

Every pot of Spirulina Greens contains: Spirulina Powder, Broccoli, Cabbage, Leeks, Kale, Vegetable Stock + Water, Oil, Ginger, Garlic, Nutmeg, Salt & Pepper.

Per ½ pot of Spirulina Greens, you will get 77% of your daily Vitamin C and a whopping 352% of your daily Vitamin B1. Due to the protein content in Spirulina Powder, this soup is high in protein. Spirulina itself is not rich in fibre, which is why we’ve paired it with greens. As a result, this soup is high in fibre whilst also being 2 of your 5 A Day.

All our soups are entirely plant-based, gluten & dairy-free with no added sugars or anything artificial. The taste is like diving into a bowl of rich green vegetables with a slight peppery flavour. You’ll also be able to notice the lightest note of grassiness from the Spirulina.

Spirulina

What’s so great about Spirulina?

Spirulina is filled with so many brilliant vitamins and minerals. These include: Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Potassium, Vitamin C, Vitamin B1, B2, B3 & B6, Vitamin A and Vitamin K.

The main active compound in Spirulina is Phycocyanin, a powerful antioxidant that also gives Spirulina it’s green-blue colour.

While more studies still need to be done, there are suggestions that Spirulina can lower ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol. It is also said to raise ‘good’ HDL cholesterol. Furthermore, there’s evidence that Spirulina might help people who have allergic rhinitis (usually from environmental allergens, like hayfever or dust). In a study of 127 people who consumed 2g Spirulina a day, their symptoms of sneezing, congestion and itching significantly reduced.

What about all the greens?

We paired the grassy flavours of Spirulina purposefully with a mix of green vegetables. Not only does this complement the flavours of Spirulina, it also increases the nutritional benefits of the soup and adds a thicker texture.

Broccoli is a real powerhouse of nutrients. It is a good source of fibre and protein and contains a multitude of vitamins and minerals. These include Iron, Calcium, Magnesium and Vitamins A, C, E, K and a mix of B vitamins. Studies suggest broccoli is good for heart health, for lowering cholesterol and improving bone health (from Vitamin K in broccoli).

Kale

Furthermore, cabbage is an often-dismissed vegetable but also contains many beneficial nutrients. These include: Vitamin K, Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, Calcium & Iron. Cabbage is also high in fibre and antioxidants. In particular, the high level of Vitamin C in cabbage is great for heart health as well as vision.

I probably don’t need to tell you how good kale is for you! Kale is probably the first vegetable to become a global superstar and a household name. That’s because it is massively nutrient dense, containing Vitamins A, K, C, B1, B2, B3, B6 & Iron, amongst others. Kale is low-fat and low-calorie, filled with antioxidants, a great source of Vitamin C and helps to lower cholesterol. Kale is also high in Lutein and Zeaxanthin. These are carotenoid antioxidants that can help lower the risk of macular degeneration and cataracts.
